Earth to Liberal Christianity:

You're eating your own ass.

Apparently the English and Philosophy departments at Ambrose University (Canada) and Liberty University turn their students into feminists and gay "rights' supporters. Not exactly what most of the university administration wanted, though not entirely surprising given that a good majority of English departments run on the left-leaning side in terms of politics. Many, if not all, doctoral English programs have faculty that favors the left. Same goes for Philosophy. Add in there only being X number of tenure track positions and you're left applying to places were you might've never considered. Enter small Christian universities. Also remember one can be a Christian and also support all the modern liberal stances (socialism, gay "rights," the bastardization of Scripture to fit ones needs, and the amusing contempt for almost all things conservative). How? Well, by being a complete fool.

First, who the fuck uses "Xian" when referring to Christians? Tool bags do, that's who. Honey, it seems you're bitter because you're a bisexual (my "rights") who also thinks capitalism is evil, that the Bible supports socialism and that somehow being a feminist and a Christian is totally congruent with one another. Yea, think again. I think getting that masters in English was boat load of wasted money (regardless if it's from Liberty U. or University of Iowa).

The so-called Christianity you're trying to reconcile with and to replace with a "Jesus loves everyone" (he does) type of modern interpretation is only going to turn actual Christianity into some pathetic joke of a religion. The New Atheists and any non-religious will rape your Christianity because it lacks anything of true substance. I myself can't take itself seriously.

Second, with this type of background -
That, on its own, would give a girl an interesting perspective on life. But, compound growing up in one of the poorest, most racist communities I’ve ever known with being raised in an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church, and, well… to this day I’m still encountering ideas and perspectives that continuously upend everything I’ve ever thought was true.
you're going to retaliate and think University of Michigan is like the promise land.

As Ms. Fields states (when choosing a university) "The prioritization may change depending on the individual, but I know I look at places like the University of Michigan and think I want to go to there because of their reputation for student activism and an anti-military/industrial stance."

According to one BYU nursing student her department professors were "surprisingly open-minded" that her stance on abortion changed (I assume she now supports abortion). Interesting. If so, being open-minded means seeing abortion as a viable medical procedure? What if certain professors didn't support it - would they be deemed narrow-minded? If we want to talk about "surprise" I'd be surprised if an English professor at Brown University thought Derrida was mostly nonsense, or if they were pro-military. Now that's a surprise.

On another note, as someone who went to Catholic school for 12 years (K-12) and then went on to a secular university I have always found small "never knew it existed' Christian colleges - mostly of the non-Catholic variant - odd species of higher education (with exceptions, of course). What  I get from evangelical Christians (and their colleges) is the other side of modern day liberalism - the really low-brow, vacuous Bible literalism. It's obtuseness defined. BYU, Hillsdale College, Grove City College and Wheaton College are the clear exceptions, and maybe College of the Ozarks. I did hear complaints of Hillsdale (probably a model of a conservative institution getting "it right" in terms of a viable alternative to left-leaning universities) English department not assigning works of non-white writers. If entirely true, that would be a serious issue that should be looked into and explained. In saying that, though BYU is a Mormon university, they're "legit" in my eyes as Stanford or Michigan are in terms of accreditation. If I were living in the state of Utah and wanted to attend law school I'd probably look at BYU.

The last note: Ms. Fields, there's always the Catholic Church to consider, but given your politics and your declaration of your sexuality (the way you do it) I'd think you're in for a life of hurt and bitterness. That's too bad. Good luck with your life and I hope Liberty U. didn't put in serious debt (socialism would fix that, right?).
